The Earth Life Science Institute (ELSI)will be holding its 5th Symposium on the 11-13 Jan 2017, on the broad topic of the emergence of the biosphere. We welcome every interested scientists to join us to discuss this exciting topic.
The emergence of biosphere on Earth, and possibly elsewhere in the universe, remains one of the great unsolved scientific questions. Research into the origin and subsequent evolution of life takes place across an array of scientific disciplines, including but not limited to planetary sciences, astronomy, theoretical physics, chemistry and biology. The goal of the Symposium is to provide a forum for diverse perspectives and unify the fragmentary knowledge stemming from a single discipline. Accordingly, the program features talks and discussions aimed at understanding the nature of life, constraints of habitability, early Earth environments, systems chemistry, structure and attributes of early life. The Symposium will gather eminent investigators as well as provide opportunities for early-career scientists to present their findings in a poster format and exchange ideas in discussion sessions.
The day before its annual symposium, ELSI is inviting all young researchers to present and discuss their work. Deadline for registration to the Young Researchers’ Day: September 30, 2016.
Topics of this day is related to the main symposium: From deep Earth to surface environments, Geochemistry to prebiotic chemical reaction networks, From origins of life to the modern biosphere.
All participants will be required to present their work in a poster format. The same poster will be then presented during the Symposium. Additionally, based on abstract submissions we will select a number of oral presenters.
